Ford Motor’s CEO, Jim Farley, announced that the company’s operations in China generated around $600 million in profits last year, despite facing difficult market conditions. Farley expressed his pride in Ford’s ability to be profitable in China, a feat that not many automakers can claim. He made these remarks after unveiling a vehicle at the Detroit Auto Show.
The earnings in China included revenue from exporting vehicles like the Lincoln Nautilus, which is manufactured exclusively in China for markets such as the U.S. The Chinese market poses challenges for automakers, particularly for western legacy companies like Ford and General Motors.
Although Ford does not disclose earnings by region, Farley has previously highlighted the company’s shifting strategy in China towards being more “asset-light.”
