BMW to install new ‘panoramic’ display in all vehicles

In this article, LAS VEGAS — BMW AG announced on Tuesday that it will be equipping all its upcoming vehicles with a new operating system and a “panoramic” display.

The new BMW Panoramic iDrive system, featuring a windshield-length display, will be powered by the BMW Operating System X, as revealed by the German automaker at the CES technology show. The company stated that the features will be gradually introduced before the year’s end.

The innovative display extends along the bottom of the windshield, aligning with a growing trend in the automotive sector. The primary objective is to provide drivers with more information while ensuring their focus remains on the road.

Frank Weber, who heads BMW’s vehicle development, expressed in a press release, “With this advancement, we are enhancing one of the world’s most advanced and comprehensive infotainment systems, thereby once again establishing the industry standard in multimodal interaction.”

The display bears resemblance to that of Ford Motor’s Lincoln brand, notably in an SUV named the Nautilus, which was launched in 2024.

Additionally, BMW’s new system incorporates a “multifunction steering wheel” that illuminates pertinent buttons based on the vehicle’s current usage, the company disclosed.

The international rollout of the system will precede its debut in the U.S., which is scheduled for mid-2026.
