Oura introduced its latest smart ring, the Oura Ring 4, on Thursday, priced at $349. The ring is designed to monitor various aspects such as sleep, exercise, stress, heart health, and other metrics to assist users in comprehending their bodies and making healthier choices. The Oura Ring 4 boasts new sensors, a more streamlined design, and a battery life of up to eight days.
The company has introduced a new “Smart Sensing” platform that utilizes an algorithm and updated sensors to provide more precise readings for blood oxygen levels, daytime and nighttime heart rate, and breathing irregularities. Unlike the raised sensors in the third-generation ring, the sensors in the Oura Ring 4 are flat, creating a smoother interior for enhanced comfort.
Available in twelve sizes and six colors, including a new black finish, the Oura Ring 4 is open for preorders starting Thursday and will commence shipping on Oct. 15. Users will need to pay an additional membership fee of $5.99 per month or $69.99 per year, with the first month being complimentary. Payment for the ring and membership can be made using flexible spending accounts and health savings accounts.
The company has also introduced a revamped design for its app, now being rolled out to Oura members. The app’s new layout organizes users’ data into three tabs: Today, Vitals, and My Health. The Today tab provides relevant information based on the time of day, offering shortcuts for quick access to sleep, activity, readiness, stress, heart rate, and menstrual cycle data. The Vitals tab allows users to delve into more detailed data, while the My Health tab provides long-term metrics such as sleep trends, cardiovascular age, and stress resilience.
New features are set to be added to the app, including automatic heart rate and workout tracking during exercise, integration of activity and daily movement with daytime stress data, and updates to reproductive health offerings. The latter will include a feature called fertile window, which will provide users with information about their chances of conception. Oura Labs, a platform for testing new features, is now accessible on Android devices, having previously been exclusive to iPhones.
