In this article, Ford Motor unveiled a special edition of its $325,000 Mustang GTD named “Spirit of America” in Detroit. The white car pays homage to historical jet-propelled vehicles with the same name, featuring red and blue stripes down the center reminiscent of the overalls worn by Spirit of America driver Craig Breedlove during his record-breaking runs in the 1960s.
The special edition vehicle, based on Ford’s current GTD model, was showcased at the Detroit Auto Show. Ford did not disclose the pricing for this unique edition. The Mustang GTD is equipped with a supercharged 5.2-liter V8 engine generating 815 horsepower and 664 pound-feet of torque, making it the most powerful production Mustang ever with a top speed of 202 mph.
Ford’s strategy includes expanding the Mustang brand into higher segments of the sports car and racing markets. The company reported receiving over 7,500 applications for the 2025 and 2026 Mustang GTDs during the previous year’s application period.
