Apple could launch a ring to rival Samsung by 2026, research firm predicts

In this article, Apple is predicted to introduce a connected ring to compete with Samsung by 2026, as per CCS Insight, further emphasizing the U.S. tech giant’s emphasis on health. This forecast is part of CCS Insight’s yearly predictions report and if realized, it would mark Cupertino’s first new product since the launch of the Apple Vision Pro headset this year.

Ben Wood, chief analyst at CCS Insight, mentioned in CNBC’s Beyond the Valley podcast that health has become a crucial focus for Apple. He speculated that a ring could be a significant addition to Apple’s offerings, especially considering CEO Tim Cook’s strong personal interest in health.

Wood highlighted Apple’s health-oriented products like the Apple Watch and the AirPods Pro 2 headphones, which can function as hearing aids. A smart ring, similar to smartwatches, would be equipped with sensors to monitor health metrics such as heart rate.

While Oura was a pioneer in this field, Samsung recently introduced the Galaxy Ring, expanding its health-related product range. Priced at $399, the Galaxy Ring is part of Samsung’s efforts to enhance its presence in the health technology sector.

Apple and Samsung both aim to retain customers within their ecosystems by offering a range of interconnected products. Wood noted that Apple’s extensive retail network could facilitate the sale of a ring product, unlike Samsung, which provides sample size kits due to the varying finger sizes of consumers.

Wood also highlighted the fashion aspect of rings, suggesting that Apple’s reputation for stylish and desirable products could make an Apple ring a sought-after status symbol. He emphasized that Apple’s brand appeal could play a significant role in the success of a potential ring product.
